At the end of the backup process, when it is time to delete previous backups, there seems to be a dual phase for each deleted group: the log reports "deleting old backups" then "counting files to delete" then "deleting".  All this takes an absurdly long time, considering that it's only trying to delete a batch of files.   Deleting a full backup of my C drive takes 4 hours.

What's the point of separately counting the files to be deleted?

This is needed to show the progress of the operation as a percen. If you don't need or care about the progress of the operation, you can uncheck Options-Engine-Calculate progress exactly.
